New social housing development launched in Strathalbyn.
Unity Housing celebrated the launch of our latest social housing development in Strathalbyn on Wednesday 11 May with Member for Waite, Catherine Hutchesson MP, in attendance.
Unity Housing Chair Leigh Garrett, Member for Waite Catherine Hutchesson MP and Unity Housing CEO Matthew Woodward officially launch the new development.
The redevelopment of the site at Jersey Way, Strathalbyn saw the demolition of one existing social housing outcome and the subdivision of the site into four allotments allowing the construction of one four-bedroom and three two-bedroom social housing outcomes.
"With housing affordability going through the roof and rental affordability completely out of reach for some people on low income, social housing is really important; that people are able to afford to have such a nice place like this," Member for Waite, Catherine Hutchesson MP, says.
Unity Housing CEO, Matthew Woodward, added: "Properties we’re opening today are examples of the sorts of outcomes – if we work collaboratively – we can achieve, and this is just a fantastic outcome for the community of Strathalbyn. It represents the first of a rollout of a significant amount of social and affordable housing that Unity Housing is developing across the metro and regional areas of South Australia. We’re very excited to be able to have four new properties in this community and look forward to developments in other parts of South Australia over coming months."
The homes were architecturally designed and have been certified at Livable Housing Design Guidelines Gold Level and SDA Improved Liveability to accommodate tenants living with disability.
All homes have been landscaped with drought-tolerant native plant selections and mulch to maximise water sustainability and minimise the requirement for maintenance, and fitted with reverse-cycle air-conditioning and a 3.7kW solar photovoltaic system to minimise tenant energy costs.
The value of the completed project is $1.8m.
Thanks to our partners Constructwell Pty Ltd, National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC), Oryx Property and SA Housing Authority and congratulations to all involved in this successful project.
